SUMMERLIFE WRAP-UP

Well, it has been a great summer meeting outdoors, but it is getting darker and cooler by the day. From this time on our Wednesday night Bible Study, AKA "Recharge" will be meeting at the church building at 7 pm on Wednesday nights.

For the children, there will be a video playing each Wednesday evening in the Multi-use room. Parents who attend Recharge with their children will be asked to take turns keeping an eye on the kids. At times, depending on the number, ages, and demeanor of the children, we may need at least one parent present in the multi-use room at all times while others look in from time to time. Again, we can take this one week at a time, and do whatever it takes each week. Nanette Knuth will be selecting the videos, and coordinating oversight.

Don't forget that next Wednesday night is our "Say Goodbye To the Adams Family" evening. We will have cake and ice cream beginning at 6 pm.

EMERGENCY WEATHER ALERT!!!

We have decided to move the Bible Study to the church building tonight. While there is a chance that all this will clear out, it is looking like it might be another gully washer today. If it is nice this evening, we can always meet inside for study, then go out the fire ring and have a fire.

See you at the church at 7.

RECHARGE 9-16-09

Hi Recharge fans,

This week we will meet again at Riverway Picnic Area on McCbes lane west of Gunnison. If you need directions, you can find them in the right hand column of this blog. We will be monitoring the weather closely tomorrow, and if it looks really bad, we may change the venue to the church building at the last minute. If that happens, we will post it on this blog, and send out emails. So check before you drive out to McCabes.

We will continue our discussion of the role of the Holy Spirit in the modern day church. Last week we each shared our stories about how we came to know the Holy Spirit, and how He has influenced our walk with God. This week will begin answering some of the most asked questions about the Holy Spirit, and try to help one another become more engaged with Him, and more effective witnesses about Him.

RECHARGE 9-9-09

During the first week of October, Karen and I will again be spending a week with our friends Justin and Shirley Stirrett in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. We will be teaching a weeklong course at their YWAM Discipleship Training School. This year, the Stirretts have specifically asked us to teach on spiritual gifts – including motivational gifts, the five-fold offices, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

That means I will be covering what amounts to seven or eight months worth of teaching in four days! Our prayer is that we will have the opportunity to introduce many of these DTS students to the Holy Spirit, and to the life and power that comes with His ministry in our lives. I need your help.

For the next few weeks, I want to use our time together on Wednesday nights to talk about the ministry of the Holy Spirit in today’s church. I want to dig into some of the Scriptures on this topic, but I also want to hear about your own experiences with the Holy Spirit Himself, and your experiences with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I would like to know what questions you yourself might have about this whole topic, and what questions you find that other believers that you interact with have.

What do you think are some of the most common misunderstandings about the Holy Spirit and His ministry? We can go as far as you want to with this study. If you have questions or thoughts about the way the various gifts work together in the body, we can discuss that too.

Please come to Wednesday Night recharge ready to share some of your thoughts on this topic. As always, we will let the Scripture, not just our own opinions or experiences be the final word. Hopefully we can all be refreshed and grow a bit in our own understanding.

If you have questions that you would like to have discussed, please email them to me at pastor@rmcmchurch.org. We will be meeting this week at 7 pm at the Riverway Picnic Area off McCabes lane west of Gunnison. See the map in the right hand column of this blog for directions.

SummerLife RECHARGE 9/2/09

Wow! September already. This week we will meet once again, by popular demand, at the Gunnison Mtn. Park, located 3 miles north of Almont in Taylor Canyon. If it is your first time to the park, don't be fooled by the first entrance, continue another 1/4 mile to the second entrance. As long as the weather holds, we will try to continue our outdoor meetings through September. That means starting the fire a bit earlier, but this has been a wonderful time together.

This week we will begin by sharing a few testimonies about what God has been doing and saying in our lives. After that, we will take a look at Psalm 103, and discuss the question, what is the difference between God's acts and His ways?

See you there at 7 pm.

SUMMERLIFE RECHARGE 8/26/09

THERE WILL BE NO MID-WEEK FOR THIS WEEK ONLY. We will begin again next week, on September 2nd, back at the Gunnison Mountain Park in Taylor Canyon. For the month of September, we will not be bringing the grill, but we will plan to have a campfire each Wednesday evening. Come and enjoy some beautiful Fall evenings, and the Word of God. See you there.

SUMMERLIFE RECHARGE 8/19/09

Recharge fans,

The Gunnison Mountain Park is once again open for business. We will be meeting there for Bible Study tomorrow night at 7. As the evenings are growing shorter (or the nights longer, or something) we are getting into prime campfire season. So we will plan to have a fire after our study time tomorrow night. If you want to bring marshmallows, or do smores, that will be the time. Any spell checker that does not know the word "smores" should never have been released!

I also wanted to notify you that we will not be having a midweek study on Wednesday the 26th of August. We will continue our outdoor meetings for as long as we can, hopefully right through September.

See you tomorrow night.

Change of Location for Tonight

Hey There Summer Life/Recharge Fans!

I took a quick drive up to the Gunnison Mtn Park today to check on rumors of it being blocked off. The rumors are true, apparently due to a controlled burn taking place in that area.

Let's meet up tonight at McAbes Lane instead. Check out the maps to the right if you need directions.

I've got some firewood and great thoughts on meditation - it'll be great - SEE YOU THERE!

EMERGENCY WEATHER ALERT!!!

Sorry guys, but I think it's going to be really ugly at the lake again tonight. It is already raining, thunder and lightning, and 26 to 38 mph winds out there. The shelter there just isn't that good, as we discovered last week.

So we will be meeting at the church in the Alcove at 7.

See you there,

John

SummerLife - Recharge 8/5/09

Well, everyone is enjoying Iola Picnic Area so much, that they wanted to meet there again this Wednesday. Last week was a little wet and windy, but maybe this week will be better. We will plan to do our study on "Hiding The Word In Your Heart" for sure this week, then have a bit of a fire and maybe Karen will lead a little worship. How 'bout it girl?

As always, Karen and I will try to arrive at the area by 6:30 so that those who want to use the grill can do so. The swimming is pretty good down at the end of the old boat ramp. Our Bible Study time will begin at 7 pm. See you there!

DIRECTIONS:

To get to Iola Picnic Area, you may want to take a look at the map in the right-hand column on this page for Blue Mesa’s East Shore. To get to Iola, follow the directions to the East Shore, then simply continue on highway 149, past the East Shore for a little more than a mile. After you pass mile marker 115, Iola is about ¼ mile on your right.

WEATHER WARNING

HI SummerLife Recharge Crew,

Our meeting tonight is at Iola on Blue Mesa Lake. Karen and I will be there around 6:30 or 6:45, the meeting starts at 7. But you will need to use your best judgment regarding the weather. I can't tell yet if tonight will be a repeat of last night or not, but last night the weather was very bad at the lake.

Bad as in 48 mph winds, heavy rain, and lots of lightning. the way the clouds are building this afternoon, we may get the same thing tonight. So we are going to go out there, but if the weather is really bad, we won't stay to long. Come if you like, or stay in your comfy home. It is up to you.

RECHARGE 7.8.09

This week's Wednesday Night Recharge will be held at the Gunnison Mountain Park. The park is located about 3 miles up Taylor Canyon above Almont. Take a right at Almont, like you were going to Taylor Park. PLEASE NOTE THAT GUNNISON MOUNTAIN PARK IS THE SECOND ENTRANCE, THE FIRST ENTRANCE IS A CAMPGROUND.

Karen and I will be there about 6:30 if you would like to come early to grill or eat your dinner. We ask that everyone be finished with food preparation by 7 so that we can get started with the meeting. Please respect everyone's time and don't hold everyone up while you cook. Thanks.

This week we are focusing on prayer and worship. We will begin by presenting ourselves to the Lord for His direction, then flow between worship and prayer as we feel led.

See you there,

John C.

CHANGE OF VENUE FOR JULY 1ST!

Ok everybody, this is a test of the emergency broadcast system. We warned you up front that we might make last minute changes to to locations of the Wednesday night meetings this summer - so here we go.

Tonight we will be meeting at the shelter Cooper Ranch, instead of the Riverway picnic area at Mcabes lane. We have been warned about "clouds" of mosquitoes at Mcabes, and Cooper Ranch looks good. Karen and I will be there at 6:30, Bible Study begins at 7. We will have the small grill, water, and bug spray, you are on your own for the rest.

Cooper Ranch is on Highway 50, on the left, as you are headed out to Blue Mesa reservoir. You will pass Neversink, go around a left-hand curve, and Cooper Ranch will be on the left in about 1/4 mile. I think it is between mile markers 152 and 150 someplace. I am sure most of you are familiar with it.

See you tonight,

John C.

SummerLife - Recharge 7/01/09

We are going to kick off our mid-week recharge with a meeting at the river-side picnic area on McAbe's Lane (CR 32) about 4.5 miles west of Gunnison. The general format for our summer mid-week Bible studies will be:

Karen and I will get to the designated meeting site about 6:30. We will bring a portable grill and some water. As far as any food or food preparation goes, the rest is up if you want to cook something, make coffee or hot chocolate etc., bring whatever you need.

Each evening, from 7pm to 7:45 pm, we will gather for a time of Bible study and discussion. After that, we can hang out, go for a ride, hike, or a run, have a camp fire and worship, whatever. All we ask is that we all gather and focus for that 45 minute period. These meetings are about getting out together and enjoying our precious summer evenings. There will be nothing special provided for children, but there will be plenty of room for them to run and play.

I will post the meeting location here each week by Monday night. If the weather becomes a problem, meetings will be moved or canceled. Current updates will be found here on this blog. If you have questions or comments, please post them here, or call me.

Thanks,

John C.

In honor of our Dads, and in celebration of the first day of summer (woohoo!) we will be having a BBQ and pot-luck lunch right after church this Sunday, june 21st. The church is providing the burgers, dogs, and buns, and the rest is up to you. So bring your summer favorite, and plan to hang out and enjoy the day.
